From Pike’s Peak

2003 - 19.5" x 13.5" - Watercolor, Arches Aquarelle watercolor paper

It was a great day for touring Pike’s Peak in Colorado. The cloud formations were magnificent. We witnessed long streaks of lightening off in the distance, which were spectacular. We also encountered rain, snow, and hail. Even so, the peak was not encased in clouds, so we could see out into the distance. Some of the valleys were misty, and this added to the extraordinary quality of the day.

I loved the T-shirt in the little shop at the top of the peak that read “Got Oxygen?” At that altitude, we knew exactly what they meant! Although we had visited Colorado Springs several times, this was our first trip to the top of Pike’s Peak. On the way down, the road was so steep it was necessary to stop and allow the brakes to cool. I was very glad that my husband was the one driving!
